This is an employee engagement program with an objective of building a culture of ownership, innovation and executional excellence. The workshops under this program are targeted to create an attitude of respect, dedication and belonging to the organisation and to have a ‘can do’ attitude i.e look beyond problems, be innovative and creative in problem solving. The program is planned to cover all employees, and, so far, around 300 employees have already been covered in 6 batches; the last batch of 26 employees is also going to be trained shortly. UFLEX has won a prestigious DuPont Packaging Innovation Award for 2015. The winning entry was our Safepack Bag for packaging of cement, which won a Silver Award. The award is given out by leading Packaging Resins manufacturer DuPont and is the longest running independently judged annual international competition for Packaging Innovation. It is one of the most coveted awards in the global Packaging industry. This year, the judges evaluated 140 entries from 25 countries before awarding the winners for excellence in technological development, responsible packaging and enhanced user experience. According to the judges, “This year’s winners stand out as leaders in packaging innovation”.
Safepack is a special stand-up bag system that was developed to address a long-standing problem faced by the Indian cement industry – that of moisture and water entering 50 kg. cement bags during transportation and storage causing the product to deteriorate due to lump formation. The loss due to this problem is estimated at over 3% of all product packaged and sold by the industry. The bag is a hermetically sealed flat-bottom woven polypropylene (WPP) bag. To address this problem, the industry sometimes used a loose polyethylene liner inside the bag, which was both costly and greatly reduced rates of packaging output. Safepack can also be printed with high-quality graphics in up to 10 colours using high-definition reverse rotogravure printing. The bag laminate structure is put through a special nano embossing and finishing operation after extrusion coating the inner surface of the bag and this provides its technological USP – it provides minute holes for de-aeration during the filling and packaging operation for evacuation of air and speedy filling while, at the same time, providing a high level of barrier against ingress of moisture and water into the bag during distribution and storage after packaging. The awards were announced and given away at a special function and our award was received on our behalf by Mr.Anantshree Chaturvedi. The accompanying photographs were taken at the award ceremony and show the award-winning package.
